After a wonderful trip to Ireland, Scotland, and England, I’m back home. Lots of singing, lots of touring, and lots of red doors!!!! Here’s a favorite from Dublin. I came across it at a hotel near the bus station. The sun was going down and someone had turned on a light in the upper window. So lovely. Dublin is famous for its famous painted doors found in its Georgian neighborhoods, but how lovely is this? More later.
How to use the corners in small space living? Bookcases! The hardest part of downsizing to a little beach house is where to put the books and all of the lovely treasures one collects over the years. Using the corners is great way to find more room for these old friends. Here are some from my file.

Where to put the flat panel tv in a small master bedroom? I figured the hotel and RV industries would have ideas so here are some pictures from my file.

Here are some more beachy decor pictures I have saved. For those of you turning on the heat, raking leaves, and getting ready for snow, these pictures should warm you up just a bit. A touch of the beach works anywhere. The clean blues, creams, whites, and natural elements always refresh my soul.
Here is a favorite ocean quote as an added gift…
“Sponges grow in the ocean. That just kills me. I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be if that didn’t happen.” Steven Wright

One of the simple pleasures of walking through neighborhoods in new cities is seeing how people decorate the outsides of their homes. Next to beautiful doors, I love shutters and flowerboxes. When I found this house in Charleston, South Carolina, I was overjoyed. The detail and layering of the window set in a beautiful urban garden. What’s not to love? So genteel, so peaceful.
Compare the above window to this one I found in a small town in Italy. Beautiful shutters, lovely old stucco. If you forget about the frosted privacy glass and the metal pipes, I think the statement about peace (flag plus baby clothes) should touch your heart as well.
Editing old document files has revealed loads of picture ideas I’ve collected about beach decor. Here a few favorites. Some are a little too over the top for my personal taste, but great ideas. Enjoy!
